Sheet Pans: A Busy Bride's Favorite Kitchen Essential

By Kayley George, RDN, LD

Sheet pan meals are one of the quickest and easiest ways to make a balanced meal. Not only do they require minimal prep and cooking time, but they can easily be customized to fit any taste! With so many possibilities, it’s hard to know where to start. Here are some tips for putting together your own sheet pan dinner!

Bring the Flavor

Add any flavor you want using marinades, spices, herbs, and sauces. Even if you stick to the same veggie/protein combos, using different flavors adds variety and will keep you from sheet pan boredom. To mix it up even more, try adding fresh greens, sprouts, nuts, or seeds on top of the finished product for some added crunch.

Save More Time

Save even more time on sheet pan dinners by planning ahead. Prep your ingredients ahead of time so that all you have left to do is mix everything together and bake. You can even assemble the entire sheet pan, wrap, and chill, then just put it in the oven when you need it!

Perfectly Paired

Choose vegetables and protein that cook at the same rate. If you do decide to mix veggies with different cooking times, toss the more delicate ones in for the last few minutes of cooking. Be sure your veggies are roughly the same size to promote even cooking. Below are some protein and veggie pairings based on cooking time and temperature.

  • 400°F for 20-30 minutes

    Protein: Pork chops

    Veggies: Cabbage, carrots, turnips, apples

  • 400°F for 35-40 minutes
